IDLE NO MORE AT THE PEOPLES SOCIAL FORUM
Representatives from the Defenders of the Land Network and Idle No More chapters from every major city across Canada participated in the Peoples Social Forum in August. It is of particular importance that this critical convergence of social movements happened on the eve of the 2015 Canadian election. Idle No More has maintained consistency in being one of the only social movements effectively standing in the way of the Canadian government’s policy agenda. Deep, diverse partnerships were established at the Peoples Social Forum to uplift the concerns of Indigenous Peoples. Idle No More organizers assisted in coordinating the 4,000- person march to Parliament Hill to open out the Peoples Social Forum and ensured ongoing focus at the Forum on the representation, increased understanding, and respectful support of Indigenous perspectives and struggles.
