Idle No More responded to the call of Indigenous people across the country, who were in strong opposition to Bill C33 (the First Nations Education Act). With Idle No More providing leadership and coordination, people reacted swiftly and purposefully, recognizing that preventing this bill was essential to maintaining our identities as Indigenous Peoples through education for our communities and controlled by our communities. The defeat of Bill C33, which stands in stark contrast with the passing of Bill C45, was a strong indication of the effectiveness of the Idle No More movement and its influence on Indigenous national, provincial, and territorial organizations and governments across the country.
