Indigenous sovereignty and environmental protections
Strategy for INM, grassroots and supporters:
Currently everyone is affected, including our water, land and environment. The current government and industry have been disregarding our collective right to be consulted with any changes that affect us.
Our Goals and objectives are to ensure that the environment is protected and our inherent right to Indigenous sovereignty is recognized as we urge the government of Canada to repeal all legislation which violates Treaties, Aboriginal inherent rights and title, and subsequently environmental protections of land and water
We intend to accomplish these goals by, immediately,
- Implementing leadership structure and councils - Council of women
- Taking training in; coordinating rallies, media, messaging, safety issues, identifying- provocateurs, misinformation shills, propaganda etc.
- Placing key spokespeople and connecting with experienced experts in different areas; i.e. treaty research, Indigenous rights and governance, environmental activism, writers, international spokesperson, national etc.
- Creating chapters across Turtle Island under umbrella of main INM.
- Requesting regular meetings with First Nations leadership to have ongoing discussions regarding 3rd party agreements between Government of Canada and industry corporations
We will also work and focus on:
Government Bills by;
Continuing to pressure the government to repeal the bills via, continued grassroots activism, public pressure, assisting legal activists working on taking the bills to court, pressure from the international community.
Education by;
Continuing the active co-ordination and planning of teach-ins which educate and build the consciousness of the Canadian and global public.
Informing on rebuilding the nation to nation relationship and implementation of strategies for environmental protections and alternative energy sources
Community Building by;
Continuing to assist community building strategies via community coordination plans, forums, round dance, feasts, lectures, films, concerts, art exhibits etc.
Alliances by;
Continuing to work with forces and implement the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People signed by Canada.
Continuing to work with social justice and environmentalist groups such as; The Council of Canadians, Defenders of the Land, Labour unions, etc. involved in collective struggles to pressure government and corporations.
Resurgence of Indigenous sovereignty over territories;
Continuing to practice ceremonies and begin the healing of colonial damage to land and water.
Continue to instill language nests for Indigenous communities which focus on active resistance to colonization.
Continuing to use political, economic and social activities.
Continuing to live our sovereignty as we have the inherent right to do so
Activating alternative energy and sustainable development;
Within the individual nations and Canada we will pressure all levels of government, organizations and band councils to research and implement sustainable development.
